St Vincent de Paul Housing is a Special Purpose Vehicle holding only the assets we developed under the NSW Government’s Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF) program.
Even before the soaring cost of living crisis confronting the community, many people were precariously placed to deal with day-to-day economic costs – let alone unexpected financial expenses. With home ownership becoming increasingly out of reach and rents rising at alarming rates, our people are well-versed in how difficult it is to attain suitable housing that is affordable from meeting with people in need of assistance every day.
Through St Vincent de Paul Housing, we are living out our values by directly providing people with safe and stable housing. As a provider of the NSW Government’s Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF), St Vincent de Paul Housing constructed 502 units for people on low incomes; 357 are for social housing and 145 are for affordable housing tenants.
Under the SAHF model, the Society provides tailored support for housing tenants coordinated through our Vinnies Services team. These wraparound services operate on a housing first principal of prioritising permanent and suitable accommodation with subsequent support provided to tenants to realise individual goals.
As of the end of the 2021/22 financial year, 764 tenants were housed through our SAHF properties with the occupancy rate at 100%. Tenants reported across the board increases in satisfaction for tenancy management (89%, up from 84%); condition of home (92%, up from 87%); tailored support (88%, up from 79%); and repairs and maintenance (75%, up from 67%).
The SAHF program also achieved outstanding results in delivering stable housing for individuals who were homeless or at risk of homelessness:
- 122 out of 125 people that were homeless at intake when entering the program have been supported to sustain their tenancies for 12 months or longer (98%).
- 230 of 233 people who had a history of homelessness prior to entering the program have been supported to sustain their tenancies for 12 months or longer (99%)
